Dinner prep

PROBLEM:
I have children ages 1 year, 2 year, 3 year and 4 years old and am not able to make dinner in a peaceful environment. (VERY necessary for my poor nerves)

SOLUTION:
I have the 1 year old sit in a high chair playing with toys or eating a snack.
I get the 2 and 3 year old to vacuum, wash windows or whatever else I can find to occupy their attention for a long period of time.

My real problem was with child number 4. He will tease anyone within a 2 inch radius. (I am not kidding!! This kid could tease all day and still beg for more)

Sooooooo, I FINALLY got smart and told my 4 year old that he is now “the table setter.”
I not only have him set the table EVERY night for dinner (complete with napkins) I also give him some index cards and a pen so he can write the names of each family member on individual cards.
After he writes each persons name, he then puts them next to the plate where they are to sit for dinner.

This keeps my 4 year old busy for a good while. AND after doing it one week, he can now spell all of the names in our family without any help. (Double score!!)

If your child is younger and not able to write letters, you could also have him/her draw a picture of each family member on individual cards and set that next to their plate.
Whatever level they are on, WORK WITH IT!!!!

So if making dinner gets as crazy for you as it did for me…………..here you go!!!! :)

Yeah, that's Lena's job right now too. However, last night as she was putting water in the glasses on slipped and shattered - glass and water everywhere. Good thing I have a lot of glasses in the basement.
